Frequently Asked Questions
General FAQ
What is Selfmade?

Selfmade is the first buyer-first real estate platform that lets you customize and renovate a home before you buy it. We purchase the property, complete the renovation, and resell it back to you—so you move into a home that feels brand new without the stress of managing construction.

Who can use Selfmade?

Anyone looking to buy, sell, or represent a home that could benefit from light renovation. We work with homebuyers, homeowners, and agents who want to make older homes feel brand new.

What type of renovations does Selfmade do?

We focus on cosmetic and light-scope updates—kitchens, baths, flooring, paint, windows, and lighting. These projects deliver maximum value with minimal permitting or delays.

Where is Selfmade available?

We’re currently operating in Southern California. Specifically in Los Angeles County, Orange County, Riverside County, and San Bernardino County.

Is Selfmade a lender or contractor?

No. Selfmade is not a lender or general contractor. We coordinate with trusted lenders, agents, and licensed contractors to deliver a seamless, all-in-one buying experience.

How does Selfmade make money?

Our revenue comes from a platform fee built into the final resale price, along with efficiencies we gain from materials, design, and construction. There are no hidden markups or surprise costs for buyers.

Why should I work with Selfmade?

Traditional home buying stops at what exists today. Selfmade unlocks what could be—helping buyers, sellers, and agents see the potential in any home, then turning that vision into a reality before closing.

For Home Buyers
How does the Selfmade process work?

You find a home you love (even if it’s dated), and Selfmade makes it move-in ready. We handle the purchase, renovation, and resale to you at a pre-agreed price—all before you move in.

Do I need extra cash for the renovation?

No. Your renovation costs are wrapped into your mortgage, so you make one down payment and one monthly payment on the finished home.

How long does it take?

Most Selfmade renovations take 3–8 weeks from the day we close on the property. You move in once everything’s complete and fully finished.

Can I choose my own finishes?

Yes. You’ll select from our curated design collections, designed to keep projects stylish, affordable, and on schedule.

What if I'm working with an agent?

That's perfect! We work alongside your agent throughout the process. They’ll stay looped in on all milestones and are paid their standard commission when the home closes.

For Home Sellers
How does Selfmade help me sell my home?

Selfmade connects your property with real, qualified buyers who want to personalize your home. We make pre-funded offers, close quickly, and handle all renovations after we buy.

Do I need to do any repairs before selling?

No. We buy homes as-is. Our model focuses on unlocking your home’s potential after purchase—so you can sell faster, without investing in upgrades.

Will my home get fair market value?

Yes. Because our buyers are pre-matched, we eliminate the uncertainty of open-market flips and can often offer more competitive pricing with a guaranteed close.

How quickly can Selfmade close?

In most cases, we can close in as little as 1 week, depending on title/escrow timelines, and of course your timeline.

For Real Estate Agents/Brokers
How does Selfmade work with agents?

We partner directly with agents on both buyer and seller sides. Agents earn their full commission, and we help them close more deals by unlocking homes their clients might otherwise overlook.

What kinds of listings qualify?

Most single-family homes built after 1965 with light cosmetic needs qualify. We avoid heavy structural or permit-intensive projects for now.

How do I submit a property?

Simply share the MLS link or address through our website form. Our team will deliver a Feasibility Report within 24 hours showing what’s possible.

How do commissions work?

Agents earn their full commission on every Selfmade transaction. A key benefit of partnering with us is that you get paid faster—you’ll receive half of your commission when Selfmade closes on the property, and the remaining half when your client completes their purchase from Selfmade. You stay involved throughout the process, your client gets a seamless experience, and you’re rewarded early for bringing the opportunity to life.

Why should I partner with Selfmade?

You’ll convert more buyers, win more listings, and close faster. Selfmade gives your clients renovation confidence and turns “not quite right” homes into dream homes they’ll actually buy.
